Over the summer, I participated in an online SAT prep program, and the fundamentals I learned were invaluable when I took the August SAT. The program’s structure was designed to break down key elements of the test, making challenging concepts much more accessible. From vocabulary development to math techniques, the lessons were both thorough and easy to apply. By the time I sat for the SAT, I felt much more confident in my approach, thanks to the strong foundation the program provided. Foundations included mental math, vocabulary roots, time saving reading methods, and common grammatical prompts on the real SAT.
One of the most helpful aspects of the program was its focus on key vocabulary roots and effective reading strategies, which significantly improved my performance in the English and Grammar sections. Understanding how words are built from roots helped me quickly grasp unfamiliar terms, while the reading methods taught me how to approach passages more efficiently. On the math side, working with Dr. Li on mental math techniques without relying on a calculator was very useful in developing time saving skills. This approach not only sharpened my mathematical thinking but also saved me precious time during the exam. Before the program, I would often struggle and run out of time on questions in practice tests, but after the week long program, I ended up having time leftover to check on previously answered questions
While they primarily do in-person teachings, I was one of the only students in the summer program to do it over zoom. The experience may seem counterintuitive, as it is harder to learn and focus when not being in person, but even through zoom, my score improved drastically, from getting a 1260 on the PSAT to getting a 1520 on the actual SAT. Other methods I had tried(such as SAT prep books, online school-like courses, etc) have not seen much improvement, mostly just increasing a few points whereas this program made my score jump over 100 points. By the end of the week-long program, we had taken a full length practice test with questions assessing the same topics on the actual SAT. When I took the real SAT, several concepts I had learned from this program ended up helping me breeze through questions.
Overall, I believe this SAT prep program is an excellent choice for both parents and students looking to improve their SAT scores. The curriculum is designed to address each section of the test comprehensively, and the strategies taught are directly applicable to the actual exam. Whether you're struggling with math, reading, or grammar, the program equips students with the tools needed to perform better and with greater confidence on test day. I myself am quite satisfied with the results I got, and I greatly thank the program.
