AP Physics 2 (Algebra)

Instructor: Dr. Li

From a math perspective, AP Physics 1 should be a simple and straightforward application.

Be prepared to be blown away by the math shortcuts.

AP Physics explores fundamental physics concepts, focusing on Newtonian mechanics, work, energy, power, mechanical waves, sound, and introductory electric circuits. The course is designed for students who have completed a geometry course and are concurrently enrolled in Algebra II or an equivalent course, as it relies on algebraic problem-solving rather than calculus. It builds on prior science coursework, such as middle school physical science or high school Honors Physics, and prepares students for further study in science and engineering.

Curriculum Units

The AP Physics curriculum is organized into the following commonly taught units, as outlined by the College Board and implemented in MCPS. These units provide a logical sequence, though teachers may adjust pacing or order based on local priorities:

  1. Kinematics (Sample packet)
  2. Dynamics: Newton’s Laws
  3. Circular Motion and Gravitation
  4. Energy
  5. Momentum
  6. Simple Harmonic Motion
